Off-Campus Housing

Welcome to Cougar Choice Housing. We're Glad You're Here!

Cougar Choice Housing is a program aimed to assist parents and students in the off campus housing decision making process.

We assist in the areas of:

• Providing educational resources such as how to navigate your lease
• How to request assistance
• Our staff conducts inspections of properties that meet our Cougar Choice Housing criteria, so you don’t have to
• 6 R’s of Renting

• See Butch’s Approved Housing list

    • View the criteria list
• Navigating the move-in and move-out process
• Need to get cable, internet, or phone service
• We have guides to assist with these processes

We're here to serve as a tool to help you understand your rights and legal obligations as a renter.

It provides practical information and resources to help you have a safe, positive off-campus living experience and avoid common and sometimes costly mistakes. You will find downloadable checklists, as well as valuable information, to help you make the right choice for your living experience. However, nothing within this guide should be taken as legal advice. Read carefully, seek assistance, and keep good records.

Washington State University Off-Campus Housing service strongly encourages all tenants to rent only those spaces that are in full compliance with City of Pullman and the State of Washington codes and regulations. Tenants should always assess security measures (deadbolts, window locks, outside lights) and fire safety precautions (smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and sprinkler systems) before signing a lease.
